I started drawing this with a student as a demonstration drawing on form, light and pattern. We spent hours looking at it and enjoying it; and then when the cup was done I left it for a while. As works often do, it decided its own fate and asked for a bed of roses to be around it and for a border to embrace it all.
I called it a Cup of Love because when I was a nurse in the UK, no matter how sick or distraught someone was, a cup tea of tea always seemed to help. It is the real British comfort drink. I left the water clear though as it is also about our own love: that it is always there inside and around us, even when it seems buried sometimes.
