The Journey of the Black Madonna

“I dreamed I was on a sail boat and the sea breeze, salty and warm, caressed my whole body. I was so happy and free, my heart was everywhere.”
I had this dream and it was so real I got up straight away and sketched it quickly. Later that year my husband took me out on a sail boat as a surprise for my birthday and as I stood looking out to the ocean, breathing in the sea air I realized it was the moment from my dream. Later the sketch became this drawing.

It was also a reflection of a journey I took to the south of France. I had gone to see the Black Madonna at Sainte Marie Sur La Mer with my 5 year old son and 10,000 gypsies. Apparently Mary Magdalene and her companions had ended up there after a rough sea crossing. The whole place was rich feast for all the senses and a testimony to the great journey that we are all on.
