This workshop is not available now but if you are wanting to explore oil painting I am available Wednesday evenings in the Mentoring group sessions where you can gradually learn the basics in your own creations.
One day workshop:
Learn the basics of using oil paints with this serene picture.
Learn how to mix colour, blend and layer oils to create reflections of light in landscape.
Learn to mix two specific palettes that are commonly used for landscapes.
Learn how to paint clouds and reflections on water.
Learn how to block in and create a harmony in your painting before you move onto detail.
How to handle your brush.
How to use a painting medium to change the way you use your oils. The medium is what you use to dilute your oil paint. We will be using one of the more recent new solvent free mediums (Gamblin) as some people find the traditional ones too toxic for their systems.
Oils handle very differently to acrylics. They have a wonderful buttery quality and have a much longer drying time which leads to greater abilities to blend and a longer time to scrape back when you want to create change.
Mostly it is learning how to see colour, see tone and warm or cool colours.
All art materials are provided.
Oil paints, painting medium, board ( 23 x 27cm) brushes, prepared board . If you have your own paints there is a $20 discount. You’ll need pthalo blue, ultramarine blue, cadmium red, quinacridone magenta, yellow ochre, white, burnt umber.
Morning tea and afternoon tea are provided. Please bring a plate to share for lunch.
